Privacy Policy

How Budgeteer handles account, finance and support data for the public website and the app.

Who we are

Budgeteer is a personal finance SaaS for budgeting, tracking transactions, managing fixed costs, saving goals, real estate, mortgages and net worth snapshots.

What data we collect

We collect the information needed to run your Budgeteer account and the features you choose to use.

  • Discord profile data: username, avatar and email address from Discord OAuth when you sign in.
  • Financial records: budgeting periods, transactions, categories, fixed costs, saving goals, real estate, mortgages, net worth snapshots and imported KBC CSV data that you add to Budgeteer.
  • Technical data: strictly necessary auth cookies, refresh tokens, server logs, IP addresses and device or browser metadata needed for security and diagnostics.
  • Email preferences: whether you opt in to monthly email summaries.
  • Support messages: the information you send when you contact us.

The marketing website does not use advertising pixels or analytics trackers.

How we use data

We use your data to provide the Budgeteer app, authenticate your account, store your financial records, show charts and summaries, process imports, send opt-in email summaries and answer support or privacy requests.

We also use technical data to keep the service secure, prevent abuse, troubleshoot bugs and maintain reliable infrastructure.

For users in the European Economic Area, we rely on these GDPR legal bases:

  • Contract: to create your account and provide the Budgeteer service.
  • Consent: to send optional monthly email summaries and handle choices you make in the app.
  • Legitimate interests: to secure, debug and improve the service without overriding your rights.
  • Legal obligation: to keep records when law requires it.

Processors and infrastructure

Budgeteer uses service providers that process data for specific product needs.

  • Discord provides sign-in and account profile data through OAuth.
  • SMTP2GO sends monthly email summaries when you opt in.
  • Cloud hosting infrastructure, including Oracle Cloud containers and PostgreSQL, runs the Budgeteer backend and database.

We do not sell your personal data.

Retention

We keep your account and financial records while your account stays active or while we need them to provide the service.

We delete or anonymize data when it no longer serves the purposes in this policy, unless law requires us to keep it longer. Server logs use shorter operational retention windows where practical.

Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct, delete or restrict your personal data. You can also object to certain processing and withdraw consent for optional emails.

Budgeteer includes a JSON export so you can download your account data, including your financial records, from the app.

If you believe we have not handled your data properly, you can complain to your local supervisory authority.

Cookies

The Budgeteer app uses strictly necessary httpOnly authentication cookies to keep you signed in and protect sessions.

The public marketing website sets no tracking cookies.

Security

We use access controls, containerized infrastructure, database security controls and operational logging to protect Budgeteer data.

No online service can guarantee perfect security. Contact us if you think your account or data may have been exposed.

Children

Budgeteer is not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes

We may update this policy as Budgeteer changes. We will update the date above and use reasonable ways to notify users when a change affects their rights or how the service handles data.
